Fint-Business model for Intermodal Transport

FINT-Forretningsmodell for Intermodal Transport

FINT is a project that is founded by the Norwegian Research Council together with the participating organizations in the project. FINT started in January 2010 and will be ongoing until January 2013.

The overall goal for FINT is to transfer transport of freight from road to sea and rail, which is part of the Norwegian Transport Plan (NTP). At the same time the transport of freight on sea has competetive challenges. This is partly due to the lack of political will from the goverment to invest in better infrastructures, partly due to taxes and high terminal costs, but it is also due to the fact that the ports and the actors in and around ports have other challenges. The challenges are linked to increasing the efficiency and the trustfulness of services so that theire customers will prefere an intermodal transport instead of a dorr-to-door transport on road. Getting  business models supported by processes that will enable them to offer an improved and an extended set of services is also an important challenge. Hence, it is important to address these issues. This, we believe, can  contribute to making an intermodal transport to be an attractive freight method both from a cost-value for the customers and an environmental perspective. At at the same time it should put the ports, terminals and transporters in a good cost-value situation.
